ScHoolboy Q Almost Cries While Explaining How Kendrick Lamar ‘Saved My Life’
Schoolboy Q has given props to Kendrick Lamar for being a positive force in his life, even when his rap career looked bleak.
During an appearance on the BACKONFIGG podcast, the TDE rapper held back his emotions while speaking about K. Dot’s influence on him.

“Dot taught me,” he said. “Dot taught me so much, bro. Dot… Dot gave me… Dot gave me so much confidence. Dot made me a rapper. This shit make me want to cry right now.”
After his emotional admission, ScHoolboy Q was encouraged to let his tears flow, but he politely declined. “Charlamagne [Tha God] got me to cry, never again,” he said, referencing his tearful 2019 conversation with the Breakfast Club co-host following the death of his close friend Mac Miller.
“Dot saved my life,” he continued. “I owe a lot to Dot.”

Q then recalled an intervention with both Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, and Derek “MixedByAli” Ali, who wanted to cut him loose from TDE, but Kendrick Lamar stepped in and made him his hypeman.
He also said K. Dot invited him to studio sessions with Dr. Dre that led to him getting signed to Interscope.
Elsewhere in the interview, ScHoolboy Q explained why he’s slowed down the rate at which he releases new music over the past few years.
“This is our life, like me talking about our situations, like y’know, the shit we done been through, homies we done lost to the system or to the streets,” he said. “Like me talkin’ about my mama trauma from her own brothers is like … you can’t compare that to somebody that won a[n] NBA championship.”

He continued: “When it comes to music, I don’t look at it as like, ‘Oh, you have to drop every year.’ I’m like, no, your favorite rapper has to drop every year because he needs chilli. I do what I want because I move off peace, I move off my experiences.”
“As a[n] artist, if I bring nothing to the table that comes from my life, I don’t feel I should put it out,” he added about operating at his own pace.

Despite refraining from flooding the marketplace, Q recently dropped a promising hint about his new music plans, telling fans on Instagram: “WatcH How I come tHis year.”
The South Central native’s last album, CrasH Talk, arrived in April 2019 and boasted appearances from Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Kid Cudi, Lil Baby, YG and more.
