Charlamagne Tha God Says Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Should Be Renamed: ‘Why One Genre?’
Charlamagne Tha God has said he thinks the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame should be renamed since it includes artists from a myriad of genres.
The Breakfast Club co-host shared his opinion during Thursday’s (February 2) show which was co-signed by DJ Envy and guest host Eboni Williams.
“They gotta get rid of the Rock & Roll — just call it the Music Hall of Fame,” he began. “Like drop the Rock & Roll because whenever I hear that I don’t be feeling happy for the Missy Elliott’s and A Tribe Called Quest’s because they’ve been icons. They’ve been great. Change it to just the Music Hall of Fame. Why’s it gotta be one genre?”
Envy chimed in wondering why it takes so long for the likes of A Tribe to get inducted when their legacy was carved out decades ago and the seminal group has lost one of its members in the late Phife Dawg.

CTG’s rant comes on the heels of Missy Elliott and A Tribe Called Quest being named as part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s nominations class of 2023. Hip Hop acts already part of the Hall of Fame include JAY-Z, LL COOL J, Run-DMC, N.W.A., Biggie Smalls, 2Pac, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.
Hip Hop inductees have received plenty of backlash on making the Hall of Fame from rock and roll purists in the past.

“Somehow Eminem has a chance to be inducted before Joy Division, The Smiths, and Pixies. I don’t get it,” a fan wrote on Twitter in February 2022.
Meanwhile, Missy Elliott made the cut in her first year on the ballot since it’s been 25 years since her acclaimed Supa Dupa Fly debut album which arrived in 1997.
Missy celebrated the nomination by posting a video on Instagram showing her flaunting her “supa dupa flyness” on what looks like a runway. The 52-year-old pioneer changed wardrobes throughout the clip as various songs from her catalog soundtracked the transitions, including “Pussycat” and her “Turn da Lights Off” collaboration with Tweet.
