Nikki D Takes Aim At Ice Spice As She Blasts ‘Prostitution Era’ Of Female Rap

Nikki D isn’t happy with the current state of female rap, calling out Ice Spice for her performance at Power 105’s Powerhouse concert this weekend.

On Saturday (October 28), the “Munch” hitmaker took to the stage at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, delivering her set dressed in a Betty Boop Halloween costume — leaving little to the imagination for those in the audience.

Unimpressed by not only the Bronx rapper’s performance or her perceived lack of talent, Nikki D — who was the first woman rapper ever to be signed to Def Jam Records in 1989 — took to Instagram on Sunday morning (Oct 29) to sound off on today’s female rap movement, labelling it the “prostitution era.”

“Oh come TF on!!! You mean to tell me, this is true talent.. the Female genre of hip hop today is the ‘prostitution era’, fight me!! [two boxing glove emojis],” Nikki captioned a clip of Ice Spice’s performance. “Notice the ONLY 2x’s the crowd reacts.. during the familiar ‘munch line’ and when she turns around to show her ass!!”

The “Lettin’ Off Steam” rapper then questioned Ice Spice’s position as one of the top female stars the moment, and she also pleaded with artists to stop performing over pre-recorded vocals at live shows.

“She’s one of the top female rappers out at the “moment”.. where’s her show production, rehearsal, and for god sake PLEASE STOP singing over those studio vocals it’s not a live show at that point,” Nikki D wrote.

She capped off her post by asking Ice Spice’s manager to reach out to her in order for her to offer the “Princess Diana” rapper some tips, claiming that her “5 minutes” is almost up. “Y’all gone blow it!!!” she wrote.

Pete Rock hopped in the comments section of Nikki’s post to call out the “sensitive cornballs” who are quick to berate the OGs for their opinion on the new generation, stating that he comes from an era of “absolute real talent.”

“This is what i been sayin,” he began. “When all this fuck shit started and mofos wanna defend the youngins ok but not the stupid music they making. Sensitive cornballs talkin bout OG’s is hating. No we are not. We telling yall learn how to rap and make music period. Simple as that.

“I come from an era of absolute real talent. Yall love money not music or lyrics yall love money and drugs smfh. im tired of these corny ass artist.”

Nikki D and Pete Rock aren’t the only ones questioning the current crop of female rap talent. In July, Fabolous weighed in on the debate, saying that he feels the movement is too one-dimensional and wants to hear more “perspectives” from the ladies.

“I love hearing female rappers talking some real shit,” Fab wrote on his Instagram Story. “Women are so strong. Have so many stories and perspectives that we need to hear in pure form.

“No disrespect to any female rappers out there but I think there’s only one style of female rap/Hip Hop being promoted, programmed and looked at as successful now.”

Meanwhile, Lil Baby recently claimed that he believes female rappers are “running the game” right now.

Despite the criticism, female rappers have been on a tear these past few years, with Ice Spice, Sexyy Red, GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, Coi Leray, Cardi B, City Girls, Scar Lip and numerous others making big moves for women in Hip Hop.
