Juvenile Promises ‘One Of A Kind Show’ With NPR Tiny Desk Concert

Juvenile has secured an NPR Tiny Desk concert thanks to the power of Twitter — and the hard work of many dedicated and supportive fans.

Last Friday (April 7), a fan took to the popular social media platform to beseech NPR to invite the New Orleans rapper to perform at a Tiny Desk concert.

The former Hot Boys rapper, seemingly unaware of the popularity of the concert series, responded to the tweet on Tuesday (April 11). “Wtf is a tiny desk [laughing face emoji] and no [two laughing face emojis],” he wrote.

Upon further consideration, however, Juvenile rethought his stance. “Ok ok,” he wrote the following day (April 12). “All Things Considered, 10k retweets and I will RECONSIDER doing @NPR Tiny Desk while drinking an ice cold #JuvieJuice from @UrbanSouthBeer!!! And what song y’all want the most?”

Once the tweet smashed the 10,000 retweet mark, the “Slow Motion” rapper took to Twitter again to make the big announcement. “The People Have Spoken!!!! 10k!! and @NPR locked it in,” he wrote on Thursday (April 13). “I appreciate the luv and I’m gonna put on a one-of-a-kind show for y’all on #TinyDesk.”

Although Juvenile said that NPR has locked in his Tiny Desk, the platform has yet to confirm if this is the case.

Tiny Desk concerts have become increasingly popular with Hip Hop stars in recent years, with Trina’s appearance being the most recent example.

Earlier this month, the Miami rap legend ran through a few of her biggest hits during an intimate 15-minute performance, but took a minute in the early moments of the concert to shout out her late mother for raising her.

“This first song is dedicated to my mom,” Trina said before performing “Mama.” “Without her, there would be no me, and she’s the reason that I’m standing here right now for you guys. So I want you to just enjoy.”

As Trina closed out the track, she added: “It’s a very personal song to me and if anybody has ever lost their mom or somebody special in their life, I dedicate this song to you.”

Vernessa Taylor passed away at the age of 62 in 2019 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

“Thank you all for your kind words and condolences regarding Trina’s mother,” a rep for the rapper told ET at the time. “It truly gives the family some peace and comfort knowing that ‘Nessa’ lived such a fulfilling life filled with love and abundance.”

During her Tiny Desk Concert, Trina then switched gears and dove into her 2000 hit “Da Baddest Bitch.” “Now, I wanna introduce you guys to the baddest bitch,” she said. “The original baddest bitch.”

The 44-year-old rounded out her setlist by performing “Single Again,” “Here We Go” and her 1999 collaboration with Trick Daddy, “Nann N-gga.”
