Danny Brown No Longer Fears Death After Getting Sober

Danny Brown is among the handful of creatives who manage to overcome their vices while holding on to the creative energy they spark.

It’s no secret that the Detroit native has a long history with substance abuse. With songs like “Die Like A Rockstar” and bars that go: “Sniff when I get up/ On the balcony drunk/ Like the world is mine/ Staggering inside with my robe untied,” his untimely demise seemed imminent. Fortunately, he managed to turn things around just in time.

During an interview with Rolling Stone published on Friday (September 1), Danny opened up about his recent stint in rehab and the ways in which it set him on the right path. He said he is now eating better, seeing clearer and is more in touch with his spiritual side.

“I was scared of this shit,” he said about dying. “Now, I just look at it like, ‘Man, when it’s the time, it’s the time.’ It’s almost like life is a school, and when you die, it’s graduation. When the higher power is ready for you to graduate, you’ll graduate. And obviously, I haven’t done what I’m supposed to here.”

Revealing that he now sleeps for up to 10 hours some nights after recovering from years of self-destructive tendencies, he added: “I guess I’m catching up for all the sleep that I wasn’t getting when I was drugging. And I’m having vivid, movie dreams.”

Through his internal struggles, Danny Brown has retained his sense of humor. A few weeks back, the 40-year-old sparked hilarity by sharing a deepfake remix of Ice Spice’s “Munch (Feelin’ U),” that reimagines him as the sassy Bronx rap star.

The midwestern MC uploaded the AI-generated video to Twitter last month along with a simple caption that read: “That n-gga a munch.”

The 15-second clip not only superimposes Danny’s face onto Ice Spice’s body in scenes from her “Munch” music video but also features the Bruiser Brigade boss spitting her lyrics.

You thought I was feelin’ you? (Nah)/ That n-gga a munch, n-gga a eater, he ate it for lunch/ Bitch, I’m a baddie, I get what I want/ Like, you thought I was feeling you?” Danny Brown spits via an AI voice-technology filter.

The remix even features Brown’s signature “check!” ad-lib, adding to the surreal comedy of the whole package.
