Trey Songz Rape Lawsuit Refiled

A woman has refiled a $25 million lawsuit against Trey Songz, whom she accuses of sexually assaulting her in 2016, Rolling Stone reports and court documents viewed by Pitchfork confirm. The woman, identified as Jane Doe, originally filed a suit for $20 million in damages in February 2022, but it was dismissed by a judge who ruled that the statute of limitations had expired. The refiled suit names Trey Songz, 300 Entertainment co-founder Kevin Liles, 300 Entertainment itself, and Atlantic Records as defendants. Doe alleges sexual battery, sexual assault, negligence, and intentional infliction of mental distress.

In the current suit, Doe claims that Trey Songz invited her to a party on the night of March 24, 2016. At the party, the musician invited her upstairs “to presumably have a consensual sexual encounter.” When Doe declined the offer, Songz allegedly threw her to the ground and “forced his penis into [her] anus without [her] consent, causing severe physical and emotional injury.” She “screamed in pain, fought to get free, and begged Songz to stop, but was overpowered,” the complaint alleges.

Doe says she left the party and called a Lyft. Her driver took her to a nearby hospital, where she received medical treatment and sexual assault counseling. Hospital staff reported the incident to the Burbank Police Department, who claim that Doe did not cooperate with their efforts to access the Lyft app on her phone, since she was afraid of Songz.

Doe alleges that she was harassed by Songz on multiple occasions following the incident. The complaint describes an encounter at a New Year’s Eve party in which the musician “started screaming that [Doe] was a slut and a liar,” with his security guards removing her from the party. A few years later, another musician told Doe to “keep [Songz’] name out of her fucking mouth or he’d kill her.” In response, Doe says that she dyed her hair and made plans to move to another state this year.
