Taylor Swift Donates $30,000 to 18-Year-Old Student to Help Pay Her Tuition

Update (Aug. 27): Vitoria Mario recorded a video thanking Taylor Swift for her generosity, and the singer replied, “Vitoria!! Your video just made my day. You worked so hard to get those incredible grades and it was an honor to have some part in your journey. Let’s find a way to meet when it’s safe to! So proud of you.”

Vitoria Mario is a self-described “young Black 18 year old with a dream” on her GoFundMe page, in which she sought help to pay her university tuition. Luckily, Taylor Swift was there to help out her fan in need.

“I have received a conditional offer to study Mathematics (MMath) at the prestigious University of Warwick,” Mario wrote, before noting that she is “in a position of uncertainty as I may not be able to attend university due to my circumstances.”

“I have lived in the U.K. for 4 years now, after migrating from Portugal to live with family in Tottenham,” she continued. “The socio-economic barriers of not being eligible for maintenance loans/grants is due not only to not having ‘Home’ status, but also because my family are low income, and unable to help me self-fund through university.”

It appears Swift came across the page, and donated the remaining amount to reach Mario’s goal, a little more than $30,000, according to People. “Vitoria, I came across your story online and am so inspired by your drive and dedication to turning your dreams into reality. I want to gift you the rest of your goal amount. Good luck with everything you do! Love, Taylor,” the pop star commented alongside her donation.
