Tom Morello Responds to Yet Another Fan Who Didn’t Know Rage Against the Machine Are Liberal

For the second time this summer, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello has taken to social media to school a fan who, somehow, did not realize that the band’s lyrical content is left wing.

In June, a fan @’d Morello to say that “I use to be a fan until your political opinions come out.” Morello replied:

“What music of mine were you a fan of that DIDN’T contain ‘political BS’? I need to know so I can delete it from the catalog.”

Now Metal Injection reports that Morello had a similar exchange with another fan earlier this week. After taking to social media to share a recent story about protesters in Portland shouting RATM lyrics at federal agents, the fan in question replied, “I mean if you’re ok with kids associating your band with the kids who don’t know discipline and want communism… I guess?”

Morello, in turn, responded by saying “That’s pretty much what we’re aiming for.”

Unfortunately, this has been a problem which has, against all odds, been plaguing Morello for nearly a decade: in 2012, Paul Ryan, then the Republican nominee for vice president, stated his love for Rage Against the Machine’s music. Morello responded by calling Ryan the “embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades.”
