Lil Nas X Wore a Shirt Repping Deathgrind Band Hatemonger

On a day that already gave us Ben Affleck wearing a Boston straight-edge hardcore shirt, we’ve got yet another celebrity metal fashion sighting to gawk over: Lil Nas X wearing a shirt featuring the scratchy-font logo of Chicago-based deathgrind outfit Hatemonger.

The rapper sported the shirt in an interview he conducted to promote his appearance at the Audacy Beach Festival, which brought an eclectic lineup of acts to Fort Lauderdale this past weekend, December 4 and 5 (the closest thing to a metal band performing were Weezer).

While answering a question about a viral TikTok video he created, Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, can be seen wearing the black shirt, which features Hatemonger’s logo in white. Best of all, the sleeves are cut off in true metalhead fashion!

It’s entirely possible Hill is a fan of the band, as Lil Nas X has had a couple of brushes with metal in the past. He publicly endorsed a metal cover of his hit song “Montero” earlier this year, used a Nine Inch Nails sample in his 2019 breakthrough hit “Old Town Road,” and released a line of “Satan Shoes,” decked out pairs of Nikes customized with real human blood.

Hatemonger drummer Garry Naples responded to a MetalSucks inquiry via the band’s Facebook page, telling us they’re aware of Lil Nas X’s choice of fashion, and while they have no idea how he got the shirt — and they’ve never interacted with him — they “think it’s awesome” and would love to know more.

You can have a look at the interview below.

Hatemonger’s most recent release, The Vile Maxim, came out in April. Grab it here or stream it below.
