Classic Concert of the Day: Fantômas at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on December 31, 2008

I don’t know about you guys, but it sure feels good to get 2022 in the rear view mirror. As 2023 kicks off, we’re gonna take things a little off the rails. A little off-kilter. A little avant-garde. You might want to take things a little easy — especially if you went a bit too hard last night — but fuck that. Today’s classic concert featuring Fantômas goes pretty hard into the strange, artsy, and tumbles out of the minds Mike Patton, King Buzzo, Dave Lombardo, and Trevor Dunn. In this performance though, you’ve Dale Crover, of the Melvins, on drums.

What we’ve got here is the entirety of Fantômas’ The Director’s Cut Live: A New Year Revolution, a live DVD that was released back in 2011. For a little more than an hour, you’ve got one of the weirdest and visually arresting live videos produced.

It’s all based on the band’s second studio release The Director’s Cut, in which the band covered and adapted classic movie themes and songs. It even includes a killer cover of Al Green’s “Simply Beautiful” that’s gotta be seen/heard to be believed.

So Happy New Year, everyone. We’ve got plans for the site that should be a fucking blast and we can’t wait to take you guys along for the ride.
