Elon Musk Says Musical Brain Chip Implants are Coming Soon

Headphones? We don’t need no stinkin’ headphones. Brain implants that pump music directly into your neural circuits are coming in the future if tech impresario / asshole billionaire Elon Musk has his way.

Musk launched Neuralink, a company founded to develop computer-brain interfaces, in 2016, and an update on that endeavor is scheduled for August 28. The most recent update, last year, revealed that the company “will be using a surgical robot to implant gossamer-thin wires into a person’s brain, connected to an external computer processing unit, and that ultimately it hopes to make the connection wireless between the two for maximum freedom and flexibility.” Successful tests have already been conducted on mice and apes, and the company had said it planned to begin testing on humans in 2020.

Tech Crunch tell us of the company’s goals:

“The company’s goal initially is to use its technology to help mitigate the effects of neurological disorders in patients with severe impacts to mobility and other daily functioning, but ultimately the company also hopes to use its technology to essentially ‘upgrade’ humans to be able to interact with computing devices at the speed of thought.”

Sounds amazing, but also some scary as hell Cyberdyne / robots take over the world shit.

Someone on Twitter asked Musk directly whether the technology could be used to pump music directly into our brains, and Musk’s simple response was “Yes.”

Anyone wanna start a Change.org petition to ensure Cattle Decapitation is the first thing blasted directly into someone’s brain when one of these things is successfully implanted in a human?
